Aiden Markram, Anrich Nortje included in South Africa’s World Cup squad

Cricket South Africa (CSA) have named their 15-man squad for upcoming 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. The competition will begin from 30th May in England. Opening batsman Hashim Amla is included in the squad despite not scoring too many runs in the limited-over format.

All-rounder Chris Morris and opener Reeza Hendricks are notable absentees from South Africa’s World Cup squad. Faf du Plessis will lead South Africa for this year’s competition.

Hashim Amla has struggled to find form in the longer format of the game and only scored 51 runs in the home series played against Sri Lanka earlier this year. Amla certainly miss the one-day series against Sri Lanka due to personal reasons. He was selected ahead of Reeza Hendricks, who was seen as a serious contender for the opening slot. Hendricks failed to produce consistent scores for South Africa in the five-match one-day series played against South Africa.

Rookie pacer Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi have been included in the squad despite suffering from injuries. The duo is expected to recover well in time for the Cricket World Cup that will begin from 30th May in England.

Andile Phehlukwayo and Dwaine Pretorius are two genuine all-rounders picked by selectors for the coming Cricket World Cup. The duo has delivered splendid performances for the national side over the past couple of years.

Kagiso Rabada and Dale Steyn will be new-ball pair for the side in the upcoming Cricket World Cup while Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi are prominent spin options included in the squad.

Opening batsman Aiden Markram has been included in South Africa’s World Cup squad due to his scintillating performances in the domestic one-day competition. He also scored a crucial half-century in the final game of the one-day series played against Sri Lanka at Newlands, Cape Town.

Middle-order batsman JP Duminy will also play a key role in this year’s competition due to his experience of playing in the big tournaments for South Africa.
