Amit Mishra ruled out of remainder of 2020 Indian Premier League

Delhi Capitals have suffered a setback of sorts as leg-spinner Amit Mishra has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2020 Indian Premier League due to a finger injury. The 37-year old sustained the flexor tendon injury on his finger during Delhi Capitals fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders on 3rd October.  This season, Amit Mishra claimed three wickets in three outings at an economy rate of 7.20.

Mishra sustained injury in his first over while trying to take a return attach off the bat of Nitish Rana. The veteran spinner tried to his absolute best and failed to take a clean catch. He bowled another over in that game and dismissed in-form Shubham Gill. He could only bowl two overs and claimed 1 for 14 in that game.

Overall, Amit Mishra has featured in all 13 season of Indian Premier League for Delhi Capitals. In 150 matches played, Amit Mishra claimed 160 wicket at an average of 24.19 with three four-wickets hauls to his name.

Last year, Leg-spinner Amit Mishra bowled exceedingly and claimed 11 wickets in 11 matches at a splendid economy rate of 6.75. With Mishra being ruled out of the remainder of the IPL season, Axar Patel will certainly make into the playing XI for the remaining games for Delhi Capitals. He will partner with Ravichandran Ashwin as spin duo for Monday’s fixture against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Amit Mishra will now see a consult over the next couple of days in order to determine the extent of injury. The franchise already had a premier spin option in Sandeep Lamichhane, who has not featured for Delhi Capitals this season.  If franchise aims to go for a like-for-like replacement, some of names included are S Midhun, Shubham Singh, Ankit Soni, KC Cariappa and Praveen Dubey, who went unsold in the IPL auction event.

It remains to be seen which player is named as a replacement for injured Amit Mishra for the coming season of Indian Premier League.
