Australia’s Josh Hazlewood ruled out of upcoming one-day series against England due to back injury

Australia’s premier bowler Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the upcoming bilateral one-day series against England. Cricket Australia stated that Hazlewood was a premier bowler for the national side in the format besides Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins.

Uncapped pacer Michael Neser is set to replace Hazlewood in Australia’s ODI squad for England series. Hazlewood is currently suffering from a back problem.

Cricket Australia Physio David Beakley said that the pace bowler will undergo further scans on his lower-back to assess his extent of the injury.

Michael Neser has done well in the Sheffield Shield cricket for Queensland and has the ability to swing the new-ball. He was the leading wicket-taker for Queensland in the previous season’s limited overs competition. He will travel to England on Tuesday to join the limited-overs squad.

Hazlewood did play a lot of cricket for past couple of years and played nine test matches on the trot. The workload was hectic as he played all five games against England in the Ashes series played in Australia and then played four games in South Africa.

Josh Hazlewood holds an excellent record in the limited-overs cricket as he has picked up 69 wickets in 41 games at an average of 24. He is going to a key player for Australia in the 2019 Cricket World Cup that will be played in England.

With Hazlewood ruled out of the series, Australia will be their three frontline bowlers going into the one-day series against England. Australia is also missing their premier players like David Warner and Steve Smith, who were handed out suspension following their alleged role in the ball tampering scandal in South Africa.

Kane Richardson is the most experienced bowler in the one-day squad with 15 games played for Australia. Jhye Richardson, Billy Stanlake, and Andrew Tye are also promising players who will be keen to make their mark against England.
