Delhi Captain Shreyas Iyer ruled out of Indian Premier League due to shoulder injury

Middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer, has been ruled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League. He suffered a dislocation in his shoulder during the three-match one-day series against England.

With Shreyas Iyer ruled out for atleast eight weeks which means he will miss this year’s Indian Premier League. In the absence of their full-time captain, Delhi Capitals might hand over the leadership reins to Rishabh Pant or Ajinkya Rahane.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan will be looking to concentrate on his batting and looking to avoid captaincy duties for the coming season. Ravichandran Ashwin, Steven Smith and Sam Billings are the other international cricketers in the Delhi’s squad for the coming edition of the league.

Delhi Capitals is expected to name their full-time captain for the coming season in the coming week. The franchise will go through detailed discussion in order to finalize their choice as the captain of the side for this year’s competition.

Front-runners for captaincy would be either spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who has experience of leading a franchise in the Indian Premier League. On the other hand, the team management might look towards Rishabh Pant, who has nothing short of sensational for India across all three formats. For the past two years, Pant has served as deputy to Shreyas Iyer.

Other names are experienced players like Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan, who have managed to lead franchises in the Indian Premier League. Head Coach Ricky Ponting will in contact with Delhi Capital owners to make the final choice and declare captain of the franchise.

In middle of 2018 Indian Premier League, Shreyas Iyer was named captain of Delhi Capitals. Since then, Iyer has done exceptional job as leader of the franchise. Last year, for the first time, Delhi Capitals managed to secure their place in the finals of the competition. Delhi Capitals will be certainly one of main contenders to lifted the coveted prize this season.
