Derbyshire has signed Australian pace bowler Billy Stanlake for this year’s Vitality T20 Blast competition. The county side made a formal announcement on 18th May. He will replace fellow Aussie bowler Kane Richardson, who had to withdraw from the competition due to his selection for Cricket World Cup.
Derbyshire Head of Cricket Dave Houghton said that Stanlake is an exceptional talent and carry bowl at pace and extract extra bounce from a length due to his height. He has abilities to cause a lot of problems to opposing teams in the Powerplay overs. Houghton said that they have kept an eye on Stanlake career in the T20 format and always believed he will the ideal player to Kane Richardson for the upcoming season of Vitality T20 Blast.
The coming of Billy Stanlake into the squad will strengthen the bowling resources for the coming season of Vitality T20 Blast.
In the T20 format, pace bowler Billy Stanlake has picked up 62 wickets in 51 matches at an average of 23.95. In his short T20 career playing for Australia, he has taken 25 wickets in 17 games at an average of 20.08. He certainly played a key role in helping Adelaide Strikers clinch their Big Bash League trophy in 2008. He also played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. He will be determined to make an impact with the new-ball for Derbyshire in this year’s competition.
Billy Stanlake expressed his gratitude after signing for Derbyshire to play in the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast. He said that he is looking forward to playing in English conditions and doing well for the side in the competition. He further stated the surface at Derby will suit his style of bowling and he will be looking to contribute well to the team’s cause in the coming season.
