English county side Glamorgan has signed Australian batsman Usman Khuwaja for the upcoming NatWest T20 Blast competition this summer. The move to Glamorgan will see him join his fellow countrymen Shaun Marsh in the squad for the competition.
Khuwaja stated that he was pleased to join Glamorgan for the upcoming T20 Blast campaign and looking to contribute to help the side continue their good run in the format from last year’s competition.
The left-hander clearly expressed that he will try his best to make Glamorgan can some silverware this season. He said that there are plenty of world-class players in the lineup and was excited to play alongside Shaun Marsh in the upcoming competition.
He is expected to take part for Glamorgan in all the games of the competition. Khuwaja has experience of playing in leagues around the world and also was part of Indian Premier League last year. In the past, he has played in the English Country Championship for county sides like Lancashire and Derbyshire.
Usman Khuwaja will keen to his best form in the competition for Glamorgan. In recent times, Khuwaja has suffered from inconsistency in the longer format of the game while playing for Australia. He has produced good performances in the T20 format and also was instrumental in Sydney Thunders winning Big Bash League a few years ago.
Glamorgan CEO, Hugh Morris said that the county was delighted to sign Usman Khuwaja for the coming season of T20 Blast. He further stated that Khuwaja is a quality player and has been top-performer for Australia for past couple of years. Morris felt that Usman Khuwaja’s experience of playing Big Bash League and Indian Premier League will help him adapt to the English conditions and produce runs for the side.
The county side Glamorgan will play their first game of the T20 Blast against Hampshire on 6th July.
