Australia’s T20 specialist, D’Arcy Short has signed for Hampshire for the upcoming season of Vitality T20 Blast competition. The tournament is slated to begin from 9th June.
Besides being a hard-hitting batsman, D’Arcy Short has the ability pick crucial wickets with his left-arm orthodox spin. Since making his debut for Australia, he has made 31 appearances for the side in the T20I and ODI formats.
Since making BBL debut in 2016, D’Arcy Short has played in various T20 Leagues around the world. The 30-year has played 100 matches, in which he has scored 3,349 runs at an average of 36.40 with two centuries and twenty-six half-centuries to his name. With the ball in hand, D’Arcy Short has claimed 48 wickets at an average of 30.14 with one five-wicket haul to his name.
D’Arcy Short expressed his pleasure after signing for Hampshire Hawks. He said that he was looking forward to doing well for the side in the upcoming season of Vitality T20 Blast competition.
In 2019, D’Arcy Short had a successful stint with Durham and finished the competition as fourth highest run-getter with 483 runs in 12 innings.
Hampshire, Director of Cricket, Giles White said that was excited to sign D’Arcy Short for the coming season of Vitality T20 Blast competition. He further stated that D’Arcy Short has been a consistent performer in the T20 cricket and has done well in BBL competition played in Australia.
At the top of the order, D’Arcy Short has consistently delivered runs for Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League competition. With his all-round skills, D’Arcy Short will certainly bring experience and value to Hampshire for 2021 Vitality T20 Blast competition.
Last year, Hampshire suffered their worst campaign and finished bottom of the table in South Group. The side will be looking to turn their fortunes around when they take on Kent Spitfires in their opening encounter.
