India are all set to take part in the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy to be played in England in June after a lot of uncertainty surrounding defending champions participation in the competition. The reigning champions are the only side who are yet to announce their squad as a deadlock came about in the form of ICC producing a new financial model that signals the end of Big three dominance in World Cricket. BCCI rejected the proposed model and even threatened to take no part in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. BCCI did quell all the rumors to rest as they all are set to announce the 15-member squad on 8th May.
There was growing tensions with matters related to India’s participation in the coming event since ICC’s big decision last month. Indian Team Head Coach Anil Kumble also expressed his concerns on the issue and wrote a letter to the board which was not taken in good spirit by BCCI. Earlier, a number of former cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Murali Karthik and Zaheer Khan voiced their opinions on India must take part in the coming event.
