India’s opening batsman Lokesh Rahul set to miss first Test against Sri Lanka

India’s opening batsman Lokesh Rahul is set to miss the opening Test of the series that begins from 26th July against Sri Lanka at Galle. Rahul did not take part in the training sessions and stayed back in Colombo after suffering from high fever as the rest of squad traveled to Galle on Sunday.

Indian team management has stated that Lokesh Rahul is set to join the squad on Monday. The batman has been coming into the series after being out of action for almost four months due to suffering from shoulder injury. He missed the 10th edition of Indian Premier League and also was not part of the Indian side that played ICC Champions Trophy in England last month.

He did play well as he scored a half century in a warm-up game played at Morutuwa. Murali Vijay who is India’s regular opener has been ruled out of the series due to wrist injury. Shikhar Dhawan will play in place of Murali Vijay in the series.  Vijay played 12 tests in a long home season for India that began with New Zealand series in October and ended with Australian series in March.
