Left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has been named as captain of Lahore Qalandars for the seventh edition of Pakistan Super League. In a formal announcement, Lahore Qalandars Chief Executive Atif Rana said that the pacer will lead the franchise for Pakistan Super League 2022.
In 2018, Shaheen Shah Afridi made his debut for Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan Super League. He is currently leading wicket-taker for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League with 50 wickets in 37 matches played.
The year 2021 proved to be a successful for Shaheen Shah Afridi. He excelled with the ball in hand in all three formats. For this year, Shaheen Afridi has claimed 78 wickets. He replaces Sohail Akhtar as the captain of the side. Under Sohail Akhtar’s captaincy, the Lahore Qalandars managed to play their maiden final in the competition.
Head Coach Lahore Qalandars Aqib Javed said, ‘We are pleased to see Shaheen take the leadership role for the franchise. He has played three editions of PSL and has been a bankable performer with the ball in hand.
Shaheen Afridi looked pleased with his new leadership role for the franchise for the coming season. The pacer said that Qalandars will look to play exciting brand of cricket. He said that he has a balanced side with all boxes ticked for the coming season of Pakistan Super League. He further stated that Qalandars can end their trophy drought this season.
Lahore Qalandars Team Manager and Chief Operating Officer, Sameen Rana, said that he is pleased to see Shaheen take leadership role for the coming season of Pakistan Super League. He said that he clearly remembers the youngster coming into the XI for 2018 Pakistan Super League.
Sameen Rana said that he still remembers Shaheen Afridi making his PSL debut for Lahore Qalandars in 2018. He said that he is pleased that he has become a world class bowler for Pakistan across all three formats. His excellent leadership skills prompted the team management to make him the new leader of Lahore Qalandars for the seventh edition of PSL.
