Lasith Malinga, Kusal Perera included as Sri Lanka announce T20 squad for Australia series

Sri Lanka have announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia. Lasith Malinga will lead the side for the T20I series after missing the previous series in Pakistan citing personal issues.

Veteran pace bowler is among the four players who make their return to the T20 squad for the three-match series that is slated to begin from 27th October.

Wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella, opening batsman Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis are the other players that make their return to the T20 squad. The senior players pulled out of the previous tour to Pakistan due to security issues. Angelo Perera, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Minod Bhanuka and Lahiru Madushanka are players dropped from the T20 squad.

The Islanders delivered clinical performances with bat and ball to complete a whitewash against a formidable side like Pakistan in three-match series played in Pakistan.

Middle-order Bhanuka Rajapaksa was the standout player for Sri Lanka in the previous series against Pakistan. The 27-year old grabbed the opportunity with both hands and delivered notable scores for Sri Lanka throughout the T20I series. He highest innings came at Lahore as he smashed 77 off 48 balls with the help of four fours and six sixes.

Another player to make a big impression on the tour of Pakistan was Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who bowled splendid spells throughout the three-match T20I series. He finished as the leading wicket-taker for Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series. Due to his superlative performances, Hasaranga has managed to retain his place in the T20 squad.

Middle-order Oshada Fernando also played a splendid innings in the final game of the T20I series played against Pakistan. Due to his superlative display with the bat in his only appearance, he has been retained in the T20 squad for Australia series.

Sri Lanka will play a warm-up game against Prime Minister XI at Adelaide. The opening game off the series will be played at Adelaide on 26th October. The other two games will be played at Brisbane and Melbourne. The games will be played on 30th October and 1st November respectively.
