Perth Scorchers has signed leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed for the upcoming Big Bash League season that will get underway in December. Fawad has signed a two-year contract with the franchise and will be looking to do well for the side in the coming season. He will be keen to make an impression in order grab the attention of the selectors who will be looking for players that will be part of T20 squad for 2020 World T20 played in Australia.
He expressed his desire to represent Australia in the T20 World Cup that will be played in Australia. Fawad stated that he will need to perform consistently to make sure he can earn his call-up to the T20 squad. The 37-year old has played Sydney Thunder for last four seasons and also was part of the side that won the Big Bash Trophy in 2016.
Fawad Ahmed has made five appearances for Australia in the 50-over format. Adam Zampa and Nathan Lyon were premier options selected by Australia for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. Despite being overlooked for the 50-over format, he will be looking to use energies to perform well and be a part of the Australia’s squad for World T20.
Leg-spinner also stated that he received a lot of appreciation and confidence after his meet up with national selector Trevor Hohns and Head Coach Justin Langer. He will be looking to take part in the different T20 League that will be played this year.
Fawad is set to join Global T20 Canada League in July and will be part of St Lucia Stars in the Caribbean Premier League in the month of August. He finished as the leading wicket-taker Trinbago Knight Riders that won the coveted trophy last season.
He is set to participate in Pakistan Super League and also did exceedingly well with the ball for Quetta Gladiators last year.
