Marcus Harris dropped from the Test squad, Pat Cummins rested for the T20Is

Premier pacer Pat Cummins has been rested for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The Australian team is expected to tour Sri Lanka in the month of June and July. The visitors will play five ODIs, three T20Is and two Test matches. Due to IPL commitments, a lot of prominent names missed ODI leg of Pakistan tour.

Rookie opener Marcus Harris has not been included in the Test squad but will travel with Australia ‘A’ squad for the tour of Sri Lanka. Pacer Mark Steketee will part of the Australia ‘A’ side that will play practice matches against Sri Lanka ‘A’ side.

For the limited-overs series, the likes of Mitchell Starc, David Warner, Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, Josh Hazlewood, and Glenn Maxwell make their return to the squad. There is no place for Michael Neser and Ben McDermott, who notched up his maiden ODI ton in Pakistan last month.

Leg-spinner Adam Zampa will miss the entire tour of Sri Lanka due to parental leave. This series will be first task for Andrew McDonalds as a full-time head coach of Australia’s national cricket team.

Australia Chair of National Selectors, George Bailey said that players selected for each format have specific set of skills. The pool of talent has been picked to make adequate preparations for 2022 ICC T20 World Cup played at home. A lot of positives came out during Australia’s white ball tour of Pakistan. Bailey said that he is extremely satisfied with the way the national side has achieved results on the field.

The Australia ‘A’ side will play two ODIs and two first-class matches. Sean Abbott, Peter Handscomb, Jhye Richardson, Aaron Hardie, Scott Boland and Tanveer Sangha are names included in the ‘A’ squad for the tour of Sri Lanka.
