Mehidy Hasan ruled out of the opening Test against Sri Lanka due to a finger injury

Bangladesh have suffered a setback of sorts as premier spinner Mehidy Hasan will miss the opening game of the Test series against Sri Lanka due to a finger injury. Nayeem Hasan has been named as a replacement for Mehidy Hasan in the Test squad for the opening Test against Sri Lanka.

The premier spinner is also doubtful for the second and final Test as there is not much gap between the two matches. Mehidy Hasan suffered from an injury during the day selection committee announced the 16-member squad for Sri Lanka series.

National Selection Panel member, Habibul Bashar said that Mehidy Hasan will miss the series opener due to a finger injury. He said that Mehidy might also miss the second Test. In the ongoing Dhaka Premier League, Mehidy Hasan sustained an injury to index finger while playing for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club against Prime Bank Cricketers Club on April 24 at the BKSP.

Since making his Test debut for Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan has been important player in the five-day format. In 33 Test matches played for Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan has claimed 128 runs at an average of 34.77 with eight five-fors and two ten-fors. He also made notable contributions with the bat and has scored one century and three half-centuries in Test cricket.

On 8th May, Sri Lankan cricket team is expected to arrive in Bangladesh for a two-match Test series, which is a part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2021-23. The Islanders will play two-day warm-up game at BKSP on 10th and 11th May. As per request of the visiting team, the practice game will be played in Dhaka. Earlier, the warm-up game was scheduled to be played at Chattogram.

The series opener will be played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram from 15th May. The second and final game will be played at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka from 23rd May.
