Afghanistan have announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup that will be played in UAE and Oman.
Left-arm pacer Fareed Ahmad has been named in Afghanistan squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. Leg-spinner Rashid Khan have decided to relinquish the captaincy over the selection of the team. Rashid made a formal statement that as captain of the national cricket team, it was my right to be part of the selection process for the T20 World Cup. Therefore, I have decided to resign from T20 captaincy with immediate effect.
All-rounder Mohammad Nabi will lead the side for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. Qais Ahmad and Shapoor Zadran have been dropped from the T20 squad. Dawlat Zadran, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Samiullah Shinwari and Sharafuddin Ashraf have been as reserves and will travel with the squad to the UAE for the showpiece event. Earlier, Mohammad Nabi has captained the national side from 2013 till 2015. After breaching Afghanistan Cricket Board’s code of conduct, swashbuckling opener Mohammad Shahzad has been recalled into the national side for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai have been bankable performers for Afghanistan in the T20 format. Asghar Afghan, Gulbadin Naib and Hashmatullah Shahidi are experienced players picked for the showpiece event. Afghanistan will kick-start their campaign against top qualifier from Group B on 25th October at Sharjah. Then they will lock horns with Pakistan on 29th October at Dubai.
On 3rd November, Afghanistan will take on India in the 33rd match of the competition to be played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The side will play their final game against New Zealand at Abu Dhabi on 7th November.
