BCCI have announced the T20 and ODI squads for the upcoming home series against West Indies. Experienced pace duo of Mohammad Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have made their comeback into the T20 squad for the three-match series against West Indies. Left-arm Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav has been included in the side after missing the previous one due to injury.
After missing the previous T20I series against Bangladesh, Virat Kohli is all set to lead the side in both the formats. Rahul Chahar and Sanju Samson have been dropped from the T20 squad. The duo did not play a single game against Bangladesh. Mohammad Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have come in place of Khaleel Ahmed and Shardul Thakur, who have been dropped for this series. Ravendra Jadeja also makes his comeback and is picked ahead of bowling all-rounder Krunal Pandya.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has suffered a lot of injuries in the past couple of years. The right-arm medium pacer picked a hamstring injury against Pakistan and missed crucial World Cup games for India. Kumar remained unavailable for selection after 2019 Cricket World Cup played in England and Wales. BCCI officials refused to give any further as to why Kumar did play in the Caribbean and then against Bangladesh at home.
All-rounder Shivam Dube has earned his maiden call-up to the limited-overs cricket. He has managed to retain his place in the T20 squad as well. Deepak Chahar has made his comeback to the limited-overs squad after delivering impressive performances for India in the three-match T20I series played against Bangladesh.
Former Indian captain MS Dhoni was once again overlooked for this series. Wicket-keeper batsman has not played any form of international since India’s semifinal exit in 2019 Cricket World Cup. On the other hand, West Indies managed to win the one-day series against Afghanistan but lose the T20I series by a close margin. The opening game of the three-match T20I series will be played on 6th December at Hyderabad.
