Pacer Sohail Khan has been named in the 29-member squad for the upcoming tour of England. The 36-year old has been recalled into the setup due to his previous experience of playing in these conditions.
The entire squad will be required to follow the given requirements mentioned in the SOP for the given Covid-19 pandemic. Uncapped batsman Haider Ali has earned their maiden call-up to the Test and T20I side. He has really made an impression in the U19 Cricket World Cup. Haider Ali also delivered decent scores for Peshawar Zalmi in his debut PSL season.
Another uncapped player Kashif Bhatti was included in the squad for the series against Australia and then Sri Lanka. He sat on the sidelines and will be looking to make his debut for the side against England.
Pacer Sohail Khan’s last Test appearance for Pakistan in 2016 against England and picked up two five-wicket hauls to help the side secure a draw in the four-match Test series. In recent Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Sohail claimed 22 wickets and bowled well throughout the competition.
Faheem Ashraf, Fawad Alam, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Hafeez, Khushdil Shah and Imran Khan have been named in the 29-member squad. Bilal Asif, Musa Khan, Mohammad Nawaz and Imran Butt are four reserve players included in the setup for England series.
Pacer Hasan Ali has been ruled out of the England tour as he is recovering from a back injury, while Mohammad Amir and Haris Sohail have decided not to tour due to personal reasons.
Pakistan Head Coach and Chief Selector, Misbah-ul-Haq said, “I believe that the selection committee has picked a nice pool of players for the tour of England.” Misbah said that the 29-member squad has been picked in order to give Pakistan the best chance to do well against England.
He further stated that the focus primarily will be on doing well in red-ball cricket. The three-match T20Is will be played after the conclusion of three-match Test series.
The three-match Test series against England will be stern challenge for players as they have not played any form of cricket since Marsh due to Covid-19 Pandemic. England will take on Pakistan after playing three-match series against West Indies. On the other hand, Pakistan will need to quickly adjust to the conditions as they will not play any warm-up matches before the opening Test.
Former Pakistani batsman Younis Khan has been appointed as a batting coach for tour of England. Waqar Younis is the bowling coach for national side, while Mushtaq Ahmed is designated spin coach.
