Pakistan’s premier pacer Wahab Riaz ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to ankle injury

Pakistani speedster Wahab Riaz suffered an ankle injury in the game against India played at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. The left-arm quick bowler suffered the injury in the game as Pakistan conceded a defeat of over 100 runs against India.

Wahab Riaz bowled a poor spell in the game and conceded 87 runs in 8.4 overs and could even come out to bat for Pakistan as the green shirts were reduced to 164 for 9 in the chase to see India win the game by 124 runs. Pakistan Cricket Board said that Riaz has sustained a deltoid ligament complex in the game against Pakistan.

The statement says that it will take at least two weeks for Riaz to recover from injury. The pacer’s replacement has not been named yet but rumors are that Mohammad Abbas or Sohail Khan might be the players in the running to the join the squad.Pakistan Cricket Board has already made a formal request for replacement of Wahab Riaz to the ICC’s event technical committee. Pakistan will need to beat South Africa to stay alive in the tournament or else they will go out of the competition.
