Royal Challengers Bangalore has appointed Former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar as new head coach for the next year’s Indian Premier League. He will take over the coaching reins from Mike Hesson, who will serve as Director of Cricket Operations for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
For the UAE leg of IPL 2021, Former New Zealand Coach Mike Hesson was given the additional role of being the head coach for the franchise. Sanjay Bangar, who represented India in 12 Test matches and 15 One-Day Internationals, has a credible experience in coaching. In 2010, he served as a batting coach for Kochi Tuskers in the Indian Premier League. Before the start of the 2014 IPL season, Kings XI Punjab named Sanjay Bangar as an assistant coach.
During the 2014 IPL season, Sanjay Bangar was named as head coach and replaced Darren Lehmann. He guided the franchise to their best performance till date-runners up in 2014 IPL season.
Earlier this year, Royal Challengers Bangalore appointed Sanjay Bangar in the role of batting consultant. He has been with the national side in various capacities. He was also named head coach of Indian cricket team that toured Zimbabwe in 2016.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Chairman, Prathmesh Mishra, said that the franchise has been appointed as head coach in a bid to groom promising players for the coming season. He has been part of the setup and brings a lot of experience as a coach. He has played the game at the highest level for India and also been with national side in various coaching roles.
After a robust and rigorous selection, Sanjay Bangar has been named as head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore for the coming season of Indian Premier League.
Sanjay Bangar expressed his happiness after being named as head coach of the franchise. He said that it’s a great chance to serve a good franchise like RCB as the head coach.
He further stated that he was looking forward to working with players for the coming IPL season. Bangar said that work has to be done with Mega Auctions. He will be hoping that RCB can break their drought this season.
In the UAE leg of this year’s IPL, Royal Challengers suffered defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders in the eliminator game.
