BCCI have announced their one-day squad for the first two games against West Indies. Uncapped wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been included in the ODI squad after his impressive performances for India in Test cricket. Virat Kohli will lead India for the one-day series after being rested for the Asia Cup in the UAE.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jaspreet Bumrah have not been picked for the first two games as well. Kedhar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya are also missing from the one-day squad due to injuries. Pandya suffered from a back injury and will be fit and available for India’s tour to Australia.
Pace bowler Mohammad Shami makes a return into the limited-overs squad after last playing a game for India in 2017. He produced excellent numbers for India with the ball against England in the five-match Test series.
Khaleel Ahmed has been retained in the Test squad but Deepak Chahar and Siddharth Kaul have not been selected despite one game apiece in the Asia Cup.
Many cricket pundits expressed their anger over Dinesh Karthik being dropped from the ODI Squad. Since his return to the limited-overs cricket, Karthik has scored 350 runs from 13 games at an average of 50. The selectors have picked Pant in order to explore options besides Karthik and MS Dhoni in the wicket-keeping department for India.
Ambati Rayudu and Manish Pandey will have opportunity to make an impression in the coming one-day series. Pandey has looked unconvincing for India in limited-overs cricket while Rayudu is expected to cement his place in the side after plundering a lot of runs in this year’s Indian Premier League.
The one-day series against West Indies is slated to begin from 21st October. The first game is set to take place at Guwahati and the second game will be played at Vishakhapatnam on 24th October. The last three games will be played in venues like Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Mumbai.
