Opener Prithvi Shaw has been included in the Test squad for New Zealand tour. Rohit Sharma suffered a calf strain during the T20I series played against New Zealand. He did undergo further examination and will miss the ODIs and Tests against New Zealand. Rookie opener Prithvi Shaw has been named as a replacement for Sharma in the Test squad.
Shubham Gill is another player, who has delivered impressive performances for India A side tha is currently touring New Zealand. In 2018, Prithvi Shaw made his Test debut against West Indies and made an immediate impact with the bat. He was suspended last year for failing to conduct a dope test within the schedule time.
Shaw has been in impressive form in the first-class cricket for Mumbai and recently smashed a double ton against Baroda. The 20-year old smashed 150 runs in his first game played against New Zealand XI in New Zealand.
Shubham Gill has yet to make his debut for India in Test cricket and has certainly made a big impact for A side this year. Promising batsman smashed 83 and 204 not out against New Zealand in a recently concluded first-class game.
The big news for India is that veteran pacer Ishant Sharma has been declared and will travel to New Zealand for two-match Test series. The 31-year old suffered an ankle injury during a first-class match. The right-arm quick has fully recovered from injury and will be looking to take the new-ball with Mohammad Shami in the two-match Test series against New Zealand. Navdeep Saini has been named in the Test squad on the back of impressive performance delivered in the T20I and ODIs played against New Zealand. He has been part of the Test squad since India tour to West Indies last year.
Left-arm Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav has been dropped from the side. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravendra Jadeja are two premier spinners for India for this series.
