South Africa skipper Faf Du Plessis has been ruled out of the one-day series against India due to finger injury. The right-handed batsman is all set to miss the remaining five games of the series followed by the three-match T20 series.
Faf Du Plessis suffered from a finger injury during the opening game of the series played between India and South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban. He will be out of action for at least six weeks as per announcement made by Cricket South Africa (CSA). South Africa Test captain might also miss the opening game of the series against Australia that begins on 1st March.
Farhaan Behardien has been named as a replacement for Faf Du Plessis in South Africa ODI Squad for the series. AB De Villiers is also out of the first three games of the one-day series. There have been plenty of names for captaincy as Hashim Amla and JP Duminy seem to front-runners to lead the side for the rest of the series. Duminy also captained his domestic side as well in this year’s limited overs competition.
Behardien was left out of the one-day squad despite showing great form in the one-day competition. He scored 437 runs at an average of 48.55 but Khaya Zondo was preferred ahead of the Behardien as part of building a squad for 2019 Cricket World Cup.
Heinrich Klaasen also has done well with the bat, scoring 522 runs at an average of 52.20. The wicket-keeper batsman will be keen to make an impression to put Quinton de Kock under pressure for his place in the lineup.
Hosts South Africa lost the opening game of the one-day series at Durban but will be keen to make a strong comeback in the next games against India. South Africa Head Coach Ottis Gibson will be hoping that AB De Villiers, Dale Steyn and Faf du Plessis will be fit and available for the national side for the home series against Australia that will be played in March.
