Chennai Super Kings have suffered a setback of sorts as off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has decided to pull out of the upcoming season of Indian Premier League due to personal reasons. The 40-year old has been tremendous performer for Chennai Super Kings for the past couple of years. Earlier this month, Suresh Raina also opted out of the competition due to personal reasons.
The thirteen edition of the Indian Premier League is slated to begin from 19th September in the UAE. Last month, Harbhajan Singh also failed to turn up for the six-day training camp in Chennai. He also did not travel with the squad to UAE on 21st August. Last season, Harbhajan Singh bowled well in tandem with Leg-spinner Imran Tahir. He claimed 16 wickets in 11 outings at an average of 19.50 and an economy rate of 7.09.
In the absence of Harbhajan Singh, the onus will be on Imran Tahir to provide crucial breakthroughs in the middle overs of the innings. Sam Curran and Josh Hazlewood are newest additions to the squad for the coming IPL season.
Not having in the squad would certainly mean that Chennai Super Kings will have to alter their strategies for the coming IPL season. Last week, middle-order mainstay Suresh Raina decided to not to participate in the competition due to personal reasons. Later, Raina hinted that he might return to the squad in the later stages of the competition.
BCCI is certainly making efforts to make sure that Indian Premier League can go ahead without hassles. Recently, 13 people in the Chennai Super Kings camp have tested positive for Covid-19 in the United Arab Emirates.
The squad has now been given the formal greens signal to begin their training from Friday (September 4) after testing negative for covid-19 in the latest medical reports. The two affected players will be tested again once their 14-day isolation period is finished.
