Sri Lanka have named their 16-man squad for the upcoming two-match series against South Africa. The first game of the Test series will be played at Galle International Stadium. The second and final game will be staged at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo. Dinesh Chandimal will lead the side for the series against South Africa after one-match due to ball tampering incident in West Indies. Pace bowler Suranga Lakmal has named as Chandimal deputy.
Former Sri Lankan Captain and all-rounder Angelo Matthews also makes a return to the squad after being out of action for past couple of years. Matthews has been plagued with frequent injuries that have kept him on the sidelines. Kusal Perera and Rangana Herath will undergo a fitness test in order to be included in Sri Lanka’s Test squad.
Sri Lanka managed to level the three-match series in West Indies played in June and will be keen to start their home season on a positive note. The Islanders have fared better in Test cricket in comparison to their dismal performances in the limited-overs format. Sri Lanka beat Pakistan in UAE and Bangladesh in Bangladesh. Chandimal has been decent as a captain of the side and has also chipped in with commendable performances with the bat. Rangana Herath has been the lynchpin in Sri Lanka’s bowling department.
South Africa is scheduled to play a warm-up game against Board XI at P Sara Oval with Sri Lanka looking to put on a better display with bat and ball in the home fixture. South Africa will be hoping to do well in this series despite a recent poor record in the subcontinent.
