Sri Lanka include pacer Lasith Malinga in the 15-member squad for ICC Champions Trophy

Sri Lanka has announced their 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy that will be played in England in the month of June. Veteran pacer Lasith Malinga has been included in the squad while Angelo Matthews comes back yet again to perform captaincy duties after being out of game due to hamstring injury. Chamara Kapugedera also makes a comeback into the lineup after playing his last game since January 2016. Upul Tharanga has been named as deputy to Angelo Matthews for the upcoming big event.

Malinga has suffered a lot of injuries and sat on the sidelines for most part of two years and has missed biggies like ICC World T20 2016. He returned for Sri Lanka in a three-match T20 series against Australia down under.  The Standby players for the event are Danushka Gunathilaka and Dilruwan Perera, Lahiru Kumara, Vikrum Sanjaya, Sachith Pathirana, Milinda Siriwardana and Akila Dananjaya. Sri Lanka will play their first game against South Africa on 3rd June at the Oval.

Sri Lanka squad: Angelo Mathews (c), Upul Tharanga (vice-captain), Asela Gunaratne, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Nuwan Kulasakera, Lasith Malinga, Chamara Kapugedera, Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Perera, Suranga Lakmal, Nuwan Pradeep, Lakshan Sandakan, Seekkuge Prasanna and Thisara Perera.
