Sri Lankan Test Skipper Dinesh Chandimal ruled out of the first Test against India

Dinesh Chandimal started his captaincy tenure on right note after winning the one-off Test against Zimbabwe. The newly appointed Sri Lankan captain has been ruled out of the opening Test of the series against India after suffering from pneumonia. Rangana Herath will become stand-in captain for the side in the first test against India.

The middle order batsman’s absence will be missed as Galle seems to be favorite hunting as he has scored a lot of runs at the venue. Dinesh Chandimal efforts at this ground in the 2015 series played against India helped his side secure a historic win after conceding a first-innings deficit of more than 150 runs.

Rangana Herath does have experience of leading the side and he could well play a big role in making sure Sri Lanka play their best cricket against India.  Asela Gunaratne did suffer an injury but will be fit in time for the first Test as per news from Sri Lankan camp.

Nuwan Pradeep is declared fit for Sri Lanka after recovering from a hamstring injury. Pradeep might team up with Suranga Lakmal as two front line seamers for Sri Lanka for the series.
