Sri Lankan ODI Captain Upul Tharanga has been banned for the coming two games by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after being found guilty of slow-over rate in the one day series against India. The second game at Pallekele also saw Upul Tharanga struggled to keep up the with rate as Sri Lanka has now been dealt with big setback as they will have to play well to keep the series alive in the next game.
Sri Lankan selection committee has opted to bring in two experienced batsmen Lahiru Thiramanne and Dinesh Chandimal for the remaining one day games against India. Tharanga has previously been suspended for two games during the ICC Champions Trophy played in England.
Danushka Gunathilaka has sustained an injury as Thiramanne has been brought back into the squad as cover for the player. Chamara Kapugedera has been nominated to take over the captaincy stint after Tharanga’s suspension.
