Steven Smith is set to become the captain of Rising Pune Supergiants as he will replace MS Dhoni in the tenth season of the Indian Premier League that will begin from 5th April.
The move was made on the day of Indian Premier League Auction in Bangalore as owner of Pune Franchise Sanjiv Goenka said that making Smith the leader of the side was done in the best interest of the team for the upcoming season in the league.
Dhoni have relinquished odi and T20 captaincy just before the series against England and stated that he aims to captain the side in the domestic circuit. He showed form with the bat to score a hundred in the one day series against England.
Rising Pune Supergiants finished bottom of the table in their first season of the Indian Premier League under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. It was first time a side led by MS Dhoni failed to make it to the playoffs of the IPL.To add to the woes of the team, he also struggled with the bat scoring just over 280 runs in 12 games.
Rising Pune Supergiants are set to play their last season in the Indian Premier League as Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are all set to return for the next edition.
