Uncapped wicket-keeper batsman James Bracey and pacer Ollie Robinson have been included in England’s Test squad for the upcoming home series against New Zealand. First-choice keeper Jos Buttler, all-rounders Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes and Sam Curran have been rested and are currently going through quarantine period after the cancellation of 2021 Indian Premier League.
James Bracey and Ollie Robinson, who have earned their maiden call-ups to the Test side were included in the reserves for England’s winter tour of the subcontinent. Wicket-keeper James Bracey has shown excellent form for Gloucestershire in the ongoing English County Championship. The 24-year old has accumulated 478 runs at an average of 53.00 so far this season.
Pacer Ollie Robinson has done excellent job for Sussex and claimed 29 wickets at an excellent average of 14.00. For the first Test at Lords against New Zealand, Ben Foakes is expected to keep his place in the final XI.
England Head Coach Chris Silverwood said that James Bracey and Ollie Robinson richly deserve their maiden call-up for the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand. The duo has been consistent performers for their county sides in the English County Championship this season. In past 18 months, the likes of Bracey and Robinson have done well for England Lions.
Meanwhile, Ben Stokes suffered from a broken finger during the Indian Premier League. All-rounder will miss the two-match Test series against New Zealand. Pacer Jofra Archer suffered from discomfort in his right elbow during Sussex’s game last week. He failed to bowl his overs on the final day of the game. He will miss the upcoming Test series against New Zealand.
Somerset pacer Craig Overton has made his comeback to the Test squad after making his last appearance for England in the 2019 Ashes series played against Australia. With likes of Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes not available, the opportunity will present an opportunity for fringe players to make an impression with bat and ball in the upcoming two-match Test series.
Ben Stokes has made nice progress after suffering from fractured finger. All-rounder might be fit in time for Durham next month for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast competition. The medical staff will once again monitor the situation next month on Ben Stokes recovery.
