West Indies selection committee has announced 13-man squad for the forthcoming two-match Test series that will begin from 22nd August. Bowling all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall has been included in the Test squad after a string of excellent performances at the domestic level.
In the West Indies Championship, Cornwall has produced impressive numbers with the ball for Leeward Island Hurricanes. Since his making his debut in first-class cricket, Cornwall has claimed 260 wickets in 55 matches at an average of 23.90. He also has one century and 13 half-centuries to his name in first-class cricket.
Cricket West Indies, Interim Selection Chief Robert Haynes, said that Rahkeem has been a consistent performer at the domestic circuit and proven to be a match-winner for his side. So it is no surprise he has included in the 13-member squad for India series. Haynes stated the off-spinner will provide value to bowling attack and can also add valuable runs with the bat.
With injuries to pace bowler Alzarri Joseph and left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, the squad more of the same that defeated England in a Test series played earlier this year. Robert Haynes said that Alzarri Joseph is currently going rehabilitation process in order to fully recover from injury and become available for national selection. Pace bowler Alzarri Joseph was instrumental in helping West Indies upstage England in the Test series. He produced aggressive spells and used short balls to good effect.
All-rounder Keemo Paul has retained his place in the Test squad. He played for West Indies in the third and final Test against England. Jason Holder-led unit will be looking to do well as they take on India in the ICC Test Championship.
