Leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has been signed by county side, Worcestershire as an overseas player for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast competition. This is the first time, Sandeep Lamichhane will be playing T20 cricket in England.
The 20-year old has played in high-profile leagues around the world. He has represented teams like Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars in the upcoming Big Bash League. Nepalese Leg-spinner has played for three franchises in the Caribbean Premier League played in August. In Bangladesh Premier League, he has played for Sylhet Sixers. He also has an experience of playing T20 cricket in Afghanistan and represented Nangarhar Leopards in Afghanistan Premier League.
Worcestershire Head Coach, Alex Gidman said that signing Sandeep will certainly bolster the bowling resources for the side for the coming season. He further stated that he has wealth of experience of playing T20 cricket across globe and also represented various teams in leagues like BBL, BPL and CPL etc.
The signing of Sandeep Lamichhane will add a lot of value to the squad for this year’s Vitality T20 Blast. Since making his debut in 2018, Sandeep Lamichhane has played 97 T20I matches, in which he has claimed 127 wickets at an average of 18.74. He holds an excellent economy rate of 6.77 in his T20 career. In the shortest format of the game, Sandeep Lamichhane claimed four wicket hauls on two occasions.
It will be interesting to see how Sandeep Lamichhane fare as the pitches in England generally offer assistance to the quick bowlers. He will need to adjust to the conditions in order to do well for Worcestershire in the coming season of Vitality T20 Blast.
Given this is his first stint in T20 Blast competition, Lamichhane will be looking to make an impression with the ball in hand for his county side, Worcestershire. The 20-year old has the ability to bamboozle batsmen with his wide range of variations.
